The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms... is a girl with yellow eyes.

Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope...

Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.
Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

I've heard from one of my blogger friends that this is a "ya love it or ya hate it" kind of book. I disagree, and that's quite honestly the problem. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I don't feel either way about it. I just didn't care for it. Seriously. I don't feel one way or the other-- it's okay.

Kira simply wasn't a character that I enjoyed, and her depth is totally lacking. I didn't want her to succeed, I didn't want her to fail...just don't care. And what an awful thing to say about a book! It's true, though. Which is pretty unusual, to tell you the truth. I just thought that Kira could've been more developed, that she could've been a better character, that I could've loved her more.

All of the characters were like that-- I didn't care whether they failed or succeeded, whether they fell in love or died, I just don't care. And I really don't want to continue this, but I need to explain how I feel. I really don't blame the book-- I went in expecting to be wowed, and when I wasn't I jumped to a lower rating.

Maybe if my hopes weren't up so high, it wouldn't have been so bad. But they were. It was just...I'm Switzerland.

But you've gotta know that I was disappointed. The story didn't drag, but I simply wasn't interested. I feel like I must've skimmed parts of the book, and I honestly...I can't continue this. I can't continue this at all-- I'm sorry guys, but I'm being a Betty Buzzkill about this book.

  1. This is so disappointing to hear. I'm a pretty tough critic of books so I know I'm going to dislike it if you did. It sits at a 3.91 on GR with a lot of people sharing the same feelings as you. I think I'll pass on this one.

    1. It was really disappointing to write, too. :( I'm really easy on books, honestly. There's very little I don't like, but if I don't like it I'm going to tell LITERALLY everyone, LOL. Aww, I've noticed that a lot of people feel the same way. :(

Anywho, thanks for commenting, and I hope that you read some awesome books this week! :D

  2. That is so weird. Every review I read about this book gives a different opinion so I think I'm going to still give it a try. I so badly want to love this book! I know it's hard to write a harsh critique, though, so thanks for being honest.

    1. I've read one good review of it, and one bad review of it, so I've got all the bases covered, LOL. I guess it's just a book that everyone has an opinion about. ;) I hope that you love it WAY MORE than I did! It was really hard, because I wanted to love it so much. You're welcome. (:

      Happy reading!

  3. Well, I have heard a lot about this. Mixed thoughts of course.
    Liked your honest review, megan
    Your reader,

    1. I've heard a bit too...to bad it didn't live up to hype. Everyone will have mixed thoughts, I'm sure. Thank you! (:

  4. Sad to hear it was a Meh read for you :( I hope you find a book that excites you and makes you forget about the disappointed feeling you got.

    1. It was horribly meh for me, but who knows! You might enjoy it! I hope that I find a book soon that I just love-- I recently read Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys, and it was absolutely fantastic, so there is that. (:

  5. Great review! I felt similar about this. I wanted to like it, it has an awesome premise but the plot was so non-linear and the characterizations overall just didn't do it for me :/ Sad but true.

    1. Thank you! It seems that a lot of people feel like this about Prophecy. It's a meh kind of book, and that's the only reviews that I've been reading. I did read one good review, though! It is sad but true. :(

  6. Great review, Megan! It's good to hear an honest opinion, even if you didn't love the book.
    Thanks for visiting Reading Lark!

    1. Thanks! A lot of the time I think that it's better to have a good review, but I don't love every book so it's just not possible. :( Thanks for the encouragement, LOL. :D

Thank you for visiting me back! (:

  7. OK first of all, your blog design is GORGEOUS! I love it! :)

And you already know how I felt about this bland book and I completely agree with everything you've mentioned.
It's interesting that you said that you never cared for any of the characters. It just proves that you weren't emotionally invested in any of the characters. Well, that was pretty much expected because none of these characters had enough depth to them. They were simply names on paper for me.
    Great honest review, Megan! :)

    1. Aww, thank you! :D

      *grabs back*
Haha, well. Yeah. I did read your review of course, so I totally know how you felt! Well, thank you. (:

I never did-- they didn't have any actual depth, so I had no interest in knowing them further. Maybe if I'd have tried harder to like this book, I would have. But we'll never know. ;) Exactly! Words on paper pretty much describes them.

      Aww, thanks Nick! (:

  8. Prophecy is a book that I can easily see making it to the top on NYT Best Selling list. This book was fantastic! I read through it in a day and found myself craving more.

What gets me is that there is no romance whatsoever in this book. Usually I need at least a kiss, or a pinch of romance to keep me going. With Prophecy it was the main character that kept me going. Kira is a character that I found myself loving from the first chapter, and think that she is very well written. I was so engrossed in the story that a romance wasn't even on my mind. I loved every little thing about the book, the world, and the characters.

I can see a romance coming, but if I am wrong I will be okay with that. Prophecy has enough action to keep you glued to the pages. the fight scenes are so detailed and put together well that it was so easy to picture it all in my head. I felt like I was watching a movie play out. Everything that takes place left me at the edge of my seat.

With Kira killing Demons, protecting her family and friends, every chapter revealing a little at a time, all the betrayal, secrets, what is there not to like about this book? It's just a non-stop roller coaster ride.

The only thing I had a bit of an issue with was the names of the characters. They were very similar or hard to pronounce. After the first couple of chapters, though, I caught on and was able to look past it. The book started out a 4 star for me, but turned into a 5 star well before the middle. Loved it!

This book can be read by adults and teens. A definite Good Choice for Reading! You will be entertained from beginning to end.

    1. Hi Daniel!

I'm super glad that you liked it! Have a terrific day, dude! (:
